Noel Milton Schrantz, 88, of Sanford , died Sunday evening, Nov. 23, 2008, at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Saginaw .

He was born on May 21, 1920, in North Canton , Ohio , the son of Claude and Gladys Ilene (Nidy) Schrantz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and arned the European-African-Middle Eastern service medal. On May 1, 1946, he married Joyce Elaine Favorite in Kalamazoo . Noel was co-owner of Valley Mechanical Contracting for many years, retiring in 1975. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tying flies for fly fishing, gardening, and was known for his ability to fix just about anything.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine; his daughter, Claudia L. (Thomas G.) McLellan of East Lansing; his son, David M. Schrantz of Sanford ; his grandchildren, Alicia Anne (Allen) Ingram of Lansing, Colton Thomas Schrantz of Lansing, Jonathon Thomas McLellan of East Lansing and Heidi Elizabeth McLellan of Lansing; his sister Kay Inez (George) Boucher of Conway, Ark.; and his sister-in-law Eleanor Schrantz of Tulsa, Okla. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph L. Schrantz, Donne Michael Schrantz and Claude P. “Bud” Schrantz; his sisters, Echo Ilene Dabel and Nancy Leway.

Funeral services will take place at noon on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Chaplain Joseph Paul will officiate, with private burial to take place later in Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Noel’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Full military honors will be presented under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the Michigan Army National Guard.
